49ers Pack By Demons7th_Mike; Hirro_pro@yahoo.com and Demons7th_Delta;K1Flywood@Aol.com

49ers Pack includes 7th,8th and 9th FS aircraft (one each)

1). 7th PS A/C #36 P-40E s/n unknown- of Flt Ldr Capt. Bill Hennon at Darwin-April 1942. Taken from RAAF Brisbane,
it was the first aircraft to display the namesake "Bunyip" or Bunyap as it was known to the
Yanks. The Screamin Demon of the 7th squadron on the left side of the rudder only. Red centers
on the cocardes are painted out. The red spinner was used by a number of Philippines-Java
veterans. A single photo reveals number 36 was lost in a collision, but no other record details
the incident.
Hennon survived Java, Darwin and New Guinea, only to disappear off the coast off New York on
march 31,1943 while test flying an early model P-47, the very plane he had requested as a
replacement for the Warhawks in Papua.

2). 8th PS A/C #43 P-40E-1 s/n 41-35972 "JerryII" of Lt. Bill Day and C.C. Gilliam at 3 mile field, Pt. Moresby
November 1942. Rebuilt Jerry II was used by ace Day to score his last 4 kills as of Aprl, 1943
So recorded with five small round dots below the pilot's name under the canopy. He stood down
from combat in May and Jerry became a hack trainer. After a brief stint as a gunnery trainer,
athletic Day returned to the States and after the war, gave up flying for professional tennis.

3). 9th PS A/C #94 P-40E s/n 41-24872 "BOB'S ROBIN" of Lt. Bob Vaught and c.c. Petraitis at Darwin-May 1942
The Robin was another former RAAF type with the fuselage insignia painted over in olive drab
which foiled a plain star, a marking not so unique to early 49ers aircraft. Some were flown
without fuselage insignia, and eventually applications at Darwin varied greatly in size and
position, particularyin the 9th squadron. "BOB's ROBIN" yielded a single kill for the future
ace, but unlike pilot who went onto Port Moresby, aircraft ROBIN would never leave Australia
